United States Coast Guard Search and Rescue System Track: Defense and Intelligence Author(s): Eoin Howlett The U. S. Coast Guard must plan searches for lost, missing, or distressed craft and persons in the marine environment. The search planner is faced with many factors whose values are not precisely known. Advanced computer models allow the responder to quickly estimate where and when the distress incident occurred, predict where the survivors are, and plan the deployment of search and rescue units (SRUs). SAROPS is the next generation of software for the United States Coast Guard's national search & rescue operations. SAROPS integrates three main subsystems: Esri ArcObjectsTM-based user interface using C/JMTK, the commercial joint mapping toolkit; Internet-based real-time environmental data retrieval system; Search planning simulator. This paper will discuss the development and application of this system. Eoin Howlett ASA Inc. 70 Dean Knauss Dr. Narragansett , RI 02882 US Phone: 401 789 6224 Fax: 401 789 1932 |
