Editing Data in the ArcGIS Pipeline Data Model Track: Petroleum Author(s): Peter Veenstra This paper outlines a strategy for editing data residing in the ArcGIS Pipeline Data Model (APDM). The APDM model is designed particularly for the management of transmission pipeline features primarily located by linear referencing within a Geodatabase. To fully utilize the power of ArcGIS software, such data, typically presented as event-based data, must be converted to geometric features in the Geodatabase. Editing data in the model requires management of both the geometric and event-based attributes for each feature. This paper outlines an editing strategy that manages both requirements. The paper also explores approaches on how to edit data in the Lineloop and Subsystem Hierarchies and how to manage alternate referencing schemas in the model. The paper will present a conceptual overview of the main classes--concrete and conceptual--in the model and will examine various tools for creating, updating, maintaining, and deleting features derived from these classes.
