Developing a Three-Dimensional Surface-Analytical and Geostatistic Tool Using ArcObjects Track: New Technology and System Integration Author(s): Susan Ray, Frank Chang, Todd Tisdale This paper presents a Three-dimensional Surface-analytic and Geostatistic Tool using ArcObjects to integrate rational databases with GIS for hydrological, topological and water-quality analysis at the South Florida Water Management District. The prior method of using sampling point data to create surfaces and perform spatial analyses was a challenge as it involved a manual procedure with multiple individual applications. That procedure was time-consuming and error-prone because human errors could be easily introduced into those multi-step processes. This project illustrates how to build one single VisualBasic application with an intuitive interface that can retrieve time-series data with a live link to a rational database, then uses ArcObjects to convert point data to shapefiles and interpolates points to surfaces. The results can be output for animated display or for further analyses. The benefit is an improved business process with shorter production time, more dependable results, and enhanced user experience.
