Globalization of GIS in Shell Track: Petroleum Author(s): Jack Verouden, Adam Dodson About 80 percent of all E&P information has a spatial or geographic component. GIS technology is playing a leading role in providing intuitive ways to get to the required information quickly and reliably. Shell has recognized this potential and is seeing the rewards of its long-standing investment in GIS. Much more than just providing a base map as a backdrop, GIS can provide a complete data mining experience when integrated with other information systems. Tabular data suddenly springs to life on a map, and trends not seen before can be spotted more easily. The route to get to where Shell is today has not been an easy one. This presentation will provide an insight into Shell's route from MicroStation to ArcGIS/SDE. Examples of how ArcGIS/ArcIMS is adding value to Shell's business, including searching and opening documents and maps in Shell's corporate EDMS from within ArcGIS, will be shown.
