2004 UC Proceedings Abstract
Interoperabilty: A Key to Global Oil and Gas Exploration Track: Petroleum Author(s): Gerrit Louwaars, Philip Langley The oil and gas industry, like many other industries and organizations, has a global playing field. Much of the huge amounts of data used to analyze the geology of oil and gas fields is interrelated. Apart from their own data, oil companies like Shell use reference data provided by worldwide operating providers like IHS-Energy, which maintains extensive databases that can be accessed and displayed using GIS technology together with any other public or acquired reference data. Recent developments allow this data to be displayed, analyzed and presented in a great variety of innovative ways in ArcGlobe under ArcGIS 9. Additional analysis of ArcGIS Layers and its attributes can be performed in Spotfire using MapConnect, a dynamic two-way link with ArcGIS allowing highlighting of analysis results in a spatial manner. Examples of several global spatial analyses will be shown, incorporated in a live demonstration of ArcGlobe.
