ArcPad and GPS Enhance Landscape Design Track: Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Author(s): Drew Stoll, Chris Stoll ArcPad and GPS can be used to enhance the landscape design process, making design more aesthetic, accurate, and sensitive to the environment. Combining a PDA, ArcPad, and GPS provides a powerful tool for design. ArcPad and GPS can be used to collect detailed and accurate inventory and analysis information. GPS data can be combined with digital photography and video to seamlessly link the photography with actual positions. The design process continues with conceptual, draft, and final designs. ArcPad can be used to virtually walk through a design in the field, which is an extremely powerful tool that provides participants with an improved understanding of the future landscape. ArcPad can be used to create "as-built" maps, which show how the designed landscape features were actually constructed. How would you like to go for a "virtual walk-through" to a landscape design before it is built?
