 Implementing an Advanced ArcIMS Application for a Water/Wastewater Utility Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): Philip Campman In 2003, the Austin Water Utility upgraded its GIS from ArcInfo 7.x to ArcGIS 8.x. Highlights of the upgrade included conversion to SDE/Enterprise Geodatabase, integration of GIS with Hansen Maintenance Management System (MMS) and upgrade of existing Web application to ArcIMS. The upgrade of the Web application takes advantage of several new capabilities including network tracing, advanced symbology and SDE storage of data layers. It also leverages the integration between the GIS and the MMS. This paper discusses the decisions that were made concerning the upgrade of the Web application, the crucial questions that needed to be answered, the technical problems encountered, and an overview of the Web application functionality and the value it provides to the Utility.
