The Agent Analyst Extension for ArcGIS Track: Modeling Author(s): Michael North Statistics and simulations like Cellular Automata produce and describe spatial patterns but tell little about the underlying causes driving these patterns. Agent-Based Models (ABMs) allow for the modeling of individuals that produce global patterns, supporting simulations that explore direct cause and effect. This paper presents the Agent Analyst, an open source ArcGIS extension that provides a toolset for fully integrating ABMs into ArcGIS. Agent Analyst creates agents directly from spatial objects in ArcGIS and the agent behaviors are created in Python. The graphical Agent Analyst tools allow the user to create agents, schedule simulations, establish mappings to ArcGIS layers, and specify the behavior and interactions of the agents. Agent Analyst is expected to add the capabilities of Agent-Based modeling to the toolset of ArcGIS users.
