Abstract
Contaminated Land: Information Management, Investigation, and Remediation in Victoria, Australia Track: Environmental Management Author(s): Ross Edwards ArcView 8.3 has been used extensively as a valuable tool in the investigation and remediation of contaminated sites across Victoria, Australia. Initially, historical information (photographs, historical environmental reports, and databases) is linked to site base plans allowing collective interrogation of this information, assisting in more efficient, cost-effective design of further intrusive soil and groundwater investigation sampling programs. Identified contamination has been mapped and overlaid to create an easily manipulated and interrogated visual summary of identified historical impacts, soil and groundwater contamination issues, and mapping/displaying extent of soil and groundwater contamination. ArcView has been invaluable in communicating these investigation findings to both internal and external stakeholders. Soil remediation volume estimates, statistical data analysis, risk maps, subsurface geological profiles, and contaminant plume models have subsequently been obtained using a combination of the base ArcView software, 3D Analyst extension, and EVS software, utilizing the export capabilities for this package.
