Abstract
![]() Promoting Enterprise GIS at the Bureau of Street Services, Los Angeles Track: State and Local Government Author(s): David Gadish The Bureau of Street Services (BOSS) mission is to effectively maintain and clean the streets, alleys, urban forest, and other landscaped areas within the public right-of-way and enforce street use ordinances. Most of the operational data collected at the bureau, during the normal process of business, inherently has a location component that can be managed in a GIS system. A project to identify business processes at BOSS that can take advantage of GIS was undertaken as a collaborative effort with the author and his students at California State University of Los Angeles (CSULA). This initial evaluation resulted in a proposal for an Enterprise GIS solution to be phased in at BOSS. Initial steps are now in place to implement the first phase of the proposal at the bureau. The selected project would utilize GIS for re-distribution and on-going code enforcement of newspaper racks throughout Los Angeles.
