Abstract
ITS and Emergency Operations Real-Time Web Mapping Track: Transportation Author(s): David Rossbach Maryland DOT CHART center integrates .NET and Java technologies with ArcIMS and ArcSDE software to improve the efficiency of its daily traffic and emergency operations. The system combines ArcIMS Web mapping with XML/VML technology to provide "real-time" traffic and weather information to traffic management and emergency operation centers across the state. The use of XML/VML allows vector objects on the Web map to be updated without refreshing the entire raster background. The mapping system allows geo-locating of devices and real-time traffic events, plus displays data from several real-time operations systems in an interactive map display. The CHART Web site displays data from many types of sensors/devices such as traffic speed, pavement temperature, message signs and road closures and provides the public with an interactive mapping system with data coming from many internal operational systems. This paper will discuss the operations at the CHART center and its system components and architecture.
