Abstract
Illuminating the Benefits of Agricultural Best Management Practices Using GIS Track: Agriculture Author(s): Garry Durden This paper will describe the development of an interactive, Web-based application to track landowner enrollment in Agricultural Best Management Practices (BMP) programs. BMPs are aimed at protecting Florida's water resources from adverse impact associated with non-point source storm water runoff. The application features a wizard-like interface to assist the landowner in enrolling in BMP programs online and a heads-up digitizing interface to allow the landowner the capability to digitize spatial boundaries and key features which define their operations. The implementation of a workflow allows staff and management to closely track and monitor BMP implementation for all phases of processing. The integration with a watershed assessment model ranks BMPs according to water pollution reduction and cost savings. The model improves environmental decision making by providing for analysis of "what-if" land use, water quality, and BMP use scenarios. Remote data collection on tablet PCs allow field staff to perform field QA inspections on implemented practices.
