Abstract
Digital Cameras and GPS: Locating Digital Photos from the Field Track: New Technology and System Integration Author(s): Joel Cusick This presentation will discuss mapping with the use of handheld digital cameras and Global Positioning System receivers. The merging of these two technologies allows for more efficient file management of field-based photos by locating the digital files with coordinates obtained by GPS. GIS professionals are often burdened by large amounts of digital images taken by field personnel to describe a site, while field personnel often carry GPS receivers out in the field to locate. File management concerns can often be addressed by geo-locating the photos to provide rapid hyperlinking of digital photos in ArcGIS. There are several software and hardware approaches to combining the power of digital photos and GPS location and these will be discussed. Joel Cusick National Park Service GIS 240 W.
