Abstract
![]() The Key to the Present Is the Past Track: Application Development Author(s): Jared Erickson History is incredibly important to local government, but how do you view time in tabular and spatial data? The Ortho Viewer is an intranet Web application that Pierce County designed to view temporal changes in imagery. The Viewer allows users to explore the many types and multiple years of imagery and view how the landscape has changed over time. The Ortho Viewer is used for code enforcement to see where structures were built without permits, for planning to see how floodplains evolve, and for other concerns such as public safety and emergency response. This paper will focus on designing and implementing a user interface that is intuitive, requires no training and supports the multi-disciplinary use of imagery. The Ortho Viewer uses ArcIMS, ArcSDE, SQL Server, and ColdFusion MX. Jared Erickson Pierce County GIS 950 Fawcett Tacoma , WA 98402 US Phone: (253) 798-3455 E-mail: jericks@co.pierce.wa.us |
