Abstract
![]() The History of the Lake Country Power Initiative Track: Electric and Gas Author(s): Peggy Carlson In 2001, Lake Country Power Cooperative, a customer owned 41,000 member electric utility headquartered in Virginia, Minnesota, decided to convert its GIS system to Esri. Lake Country Power has a very large service territory. It has two additional services centers located in Grand Rapids and Kettle River, Minnesota. Because of this, Lake Country required a Web based GIS system that would be flexible enough to meet its needs. This paper will discuss the Esri GIS environment initially chosen by Lake Country. Things to take into consideration included the specifications, configuration, and management of the Geodatabase; the capability of importing GPS data from a third party vendor; the development of import/ export utilities for distribution analysis, outage management, and automated staking software; possible ties to SCADA and AMR and the lessons learned during the implementation along with quality assurance and quality control issues that were key to the success of the GIS Project.
