Abstract
![]() Placer Dome: Implementation of a Global Land Management GIS System Track: Cadastral and Land Records Author(s): Glen Kuntz Placer Dome (PDG) is one of the largest Diversified Gold Mining companies of the world. Land management is a core business process and needs to integrate with existing regional Geographic Information Systems, Land Administration Systems, and with business process models to develop a Global Land Management System (LMS). The successful implementation of the LMS was the result of the understanding of the technology but, more importantly, of the data, content, workflows, business requirements, and the recognition of the stakeholders support and requirements from the very beginning. PDG has taken full advantage of the recent advances in both database and spatial mapping technologies to help manage the development of an LMS that is based upon the ArcSDE/ArcIMS platform serving to web, ArcGIS, and Mapinfo clients. LMS provides an avenue to standardize corporate policies for land management and create and enforce minimum metadata requirements with the ability to adapt to regional requirements.
