Abstract
Cool GIS Tools Link Sewer Investigators to Emergency Responders Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): Christopher Hall The integration of the Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati's Industrial Waste operations into the Cincinnati Area GIS (CAGIS) utility brings a new tool set to its investigators and specialists. Now all the mapping tools and geographical data of the GIS are available from inside PACS 2000 pretreatment information management system. The GEN7 tool set allows both upstream and downstream sewer traces that graphically depict sources of spills and areas impacted by spills--the same applies for stream reaches--and the resulting database queries provide comprehensive reports. The integration puts all of our routine industrial user data in the hands of other government agencies in a format of which they are regular users. Local fire departments can benefit from our knowledge of chemical storage areas, manufacturing processes, and drainage routes for spills and fire suppression runoff. Come and see real life examples of how we use these tools.
