Abstract
![]() Flash, ColdFusion, and ArcIMS: A New-Generation IMS-Map Portal Track: New Technology and System Integration Author(s): Premkrishnan Radhakrishnan Flash is one of the most commonly used technologies in Web design today because of its relative ease of use in building complex Web sites. Flash remoting which uses server technologies (like ColdFusion) can be used to build dynamic Flash Web sites. ArcIMS, which is used to serve maps on the Internet, is "the" mapservice technology in the world today. The most popular interface for ArcIMS is an HTML browser. This paper will focus on the use of ColdFusion components to communicate with ArcIMS and the use of Flash remoting to implement a Flash portal for ArcIMS services. Such a portal was designed for the Indiana Geological Survey's Petroleum database using the above mentioned methods. The portal demonstrates a highly customized ArcIMS-Flash interface alongside the more common tools used in the HTML browser interface.
