Abstract
Streamlining Environmental Analysis and Mapping through GIS Track: Transportation Author(s): Bill Press The Intercounty Connector (ICC) is a proposed roadway link to Interstate highway corridors beyond the perimeter of the existing Capital Beltway in Maryland. A Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) has been prepared to evaluate reasonable alternatives and analyze potential impacts. The study team is led by public agencies with private sector partners. A key objective of the DEIS analysis is to identify resource priority needs, including improvements to water quality, community facilities, stream habitat, and parkland trails. ArcGIS is the central data repository for a vast library of basemap, environmental and cultural resource features. Aerial photography, CADD files, shapefiles, and geodatabase feature classes are integrated to prepare impact models, public presentation displays, and report graphics. Initial preparation of the spatial database has enabled a more efficient use of GIS tools. Impact calculations, site analyses, restoration opportunities, data translation, and cartographic output are all managed through an ArcGIS solution.
