Abstract
![]() Land Acquisition Prioritization for the Protection of the Edwards Aquifer Track: Water Resources Author(s): Michelle Aten, Vijendra Boken, Greg Easson The Edwards Aquifer provides water resources for the growing population of South-central Texas. Therefore, the City of San Antonio has enacted legislation to purchase properties within this area for the preservation and protection of this valuable resource. The San Antonio City Council developed an extensive GIS to prioritize the acquisition of property in a fair and equitable manner. This research recommends techniques to integrate water level data into the existing GIS by using ArcGIS and the Geostatistical Analyst extension to generate predicted ground water surface maps from point-based well data. This research assesses six different spatial analysis algorithms to determine the optimal method for ground water level surface interpolation. We also compared mapping the entire aquifer as a continuous unit versus limiting the spatial extents to the hydrologic zone.
