Abstract
U.S. Army Installation Geospatial Information and Services Track: Defense and Intelligence Author(s): Joshua Delmonico, Kenneth Shaffer, Merland Halisky US Army Installation Geospatial Information and Services The Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Installation Management is responsible for providing Installation Geospatial Information and Services (IGI&S) to the Army. The IGI&S office establishes installation GIS policy for the Army, manages a spatial data warehouse, and participates with the OSD Defense Installation Spatial Data Infrastructure Office efforts to establish a DoD-wide GIS community. This presentation will discuss many of the issues involved with the management of a GIS program of this magnitude. Issues to be discussed include the direction the Army is going with IGI&S, the challenges of obtaining data from 1,700 sites with differing capabilities and organizing it centrally, implementation of data standards such as the SDSFIE, establishment of a central GIS data repository, and the establishment of a Web-based distribution system to meet various heterogeneous user needs.
