Abstract
A Road Map for Deploying GIS to Utility Field Personnel Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): Dee Thompson, Christopher Stern Deploying GIS to the field is a critical component of a successful utility GIS mapping program. The City of Phoenix Water Services Department's (WSD) enterprise mobile GIS and field service management project illustrates this fact. Phoenix WSD provides utility services to the 5th largest and 2nd fastest growing City in the nation. In 2002, the City launched a project to plan, design and implement an enterprise mobile solution for the City's 450 field crews. The project has been a tremendous success, much in part to a well designed implementation roadmap that enabled phased deployment of an integrated Esri based mobile- and Web-based solution that provides GIS maps, work orders, automated paperwork, and field crew performance reporting for City management and field personnel. The purpose of this presentation is to discuss the project roadmap and evolution, highlighting the strategy, return-on-investment, implementation, functionality, and lessons learned.
