Abstract
GIS Partnerships in California to Enhance Decision Making Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Karen Beardsley The Great Places Program (GPP) is a public-private collaborative effort in California that is intended to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of land use decision-making. GPP will improve natural resources conservation through updated natural resource data and data integration, development of GIS analytical tools for better decision-making, and enhanced access to natural resource and other data by the public and local, regional and state decision-makers. GPP will provide analytical support in the form of customized GIS analysis and the development of GIS tools that support more effective planning decisions. Data development and integration will focus on larger scale, regionally and locally significant data appropriate for local land use and transportation planning. GPP includes a pilot project focusing on the San Joaquin Valley that will test the exchange of natural resource data from Resource Agency departments to local, state, and regional agencies responsible for planning policies and infrastructure projects.
