Abstract
E-Health: Oakland County's Integrated Environmental Health System Track: Health and Human Services Author(s): Janet Brinker Oakland County's Environmental Health unit has responded to the increasing need to streamline the permit application process, increase staff efficiency, and produce meaningful data/reports by partnering with the County's Information Technology Department to create an E-Health system. The Web-based E-Health system supports permit submission and online payment for Environmental Health Services programs, including Wells, Septic, and Foods. The E-Health project includes a GIS Viewer that allows staff to complete site evaluations in the field and integrates GPS and wireless tablet/hand-held devices for field sanitarians to use. The E-Health system incorporates an innovative technology allowing online customers to submit proposed well and septic locations using an interactive GIS application called Sketch. Well drillers can also enter well logs online and view map layers to find acceptable well locations. This project has resulted in easy access to detailed documentation, access to GIS data in the field, and electronic connectivity between field and office.
