Abstract
GIS Meets Archaeology in Lancaster, Pennsylvania Track: Archaeology Author(s): Jeremy Ziegler Upon the completion of my Archaeological Field Methods course, I was able to use data from the Stevens and Smith site to create a GIS using ArcGIS Software. This presentation will recap the findings from the site and discuss the ramifications (problems) of a GIS representation of the information. Spatial referencing, creation of polygons, incorporation of the third dimension, and maintaining spatial and attribute accuracy will be examined as well. On the site 200,000 artifacts of various types, an artifact field, and evidence of the Underground Railroads' use were discovered. Maps, photographs and GIS representations of distributions will be presented for discussion.
