Abstract
![]() Migrating Software, Systems, and Databases in a Citrix Environment Track: System Implementation for GIS Author(s): Brendan Ford Fairfax County, VA, has an Esri user base of more than 700 users. Over the past year, the GIS maintained by the county has undergone tremendous change to support this growing user base. The three server Citrix farm that delivers applications was replaced with a ten server farm. The enterprise SDE database was upgraded and moved. The in-house applications maintained by the GIS office were upgraded from 3.x applications to ArcGIS applications. All of these major changes represent major challenges as well. This paper will cover the county Citrix implementation, key points to consider when migrating between server farms, in-house applications developed by the county GIS staff and issues associated with migrating those applications, and also the challenges of migrating from one SDE database to another. One other topic covered will be the tracking of usage metrics in a Citrix Environment. These metrics aid the decision making process in an enterprise GIS.
