Abstract
![]() A Multi-Purpose Geodatabase Serving GIS, Cartography, and Engineering at SHA Track: Transportation Author(s): Jack Martin, Micheal Deamer, Thomas Moen This paper presents the design, development, and implementation of a comprehensive ArcSDE geodatabase (Transportation Spatial Database-TSD) and related applications that provides a foundation for a diverse set of services and users at the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA). Access to the database through the TSD Portal supports SHA users by allowing for the export of standard products or selected feature classes from the geodatabase to the users desired output format whether vector, raster, shapefile, personal geodatabase, or CAD format with associated attribute tables. The TSD also supports Web applications developed using ArcIMS and was designed to serve as a web server to deliver base maps to many different web applications, such as the SHA Image viewer application. Services provide cartographers with a set of map development capabilities and the ability to edit TSD data from either ArcMap or MicroStation and provides printable versions of the standard SHA map product.
