Abstract
Fire Weather Forecasts Using Gridded Inputs in a Temporal ArcIMS Interface Track: Climate, Weather and Atmosphere Author(s): Andrew Wilson, John Benoit, Jeff Logan, Francis Fujioka This presentation will describe a system to disseminate mapped forecasts of fire weather/fire danger using ArcIMS. This system has been developed using spatial input from the NWS National Digital Forecast Database (NDFD) and MM5 models. Information is not only displayed directly from the forecasts but is also used in calculations to create National Fire Danger Rating index and component forecasts. The local MM5 models run on scalable, clustered computers on the backend, feeding fire danger calculations and IMS display. The data are processed and brought into mapping services through dynamic, automated procedures that update SDE databases with hundreds of raster datasets as the forecasts are updated. The active data display uses an innovative ArcIMS time series viewer that presents a simple display relevant to the tasks of the field managers who use this information.
