Abstract
![]() Capturing Historic Preservation in Riverside, California Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Bruce Thomas, Janet Hansen, Camille McFadin The City of Riverside Planning Department maintains and updates an extensive database of historic resources that have been surveyed over time including landmarks and historic districts. Putting this information on the city website means citizens, researchers and visitors can search and learn about the history and architecture of residences, commercial and civic buildings, and historic neighborhoods (http://olmsted.riversideca.gov/historic). Historic property information includes an interactive map and photographs. The property maps are generated dynamically by ArcIMS. The map images and controls are just one part of the ASP .NET web page. This paper will discuss how the Web application interacts with the ArcIMS map service and some of the important technical issues involved.
