Abstract
Effective Integration of Satellite Imagery and GIS Technologies Track: Metadata and Data Publishing Author(s): Paul Davis The Global Land Cover Facility (GLCF) is a successful research and data sharing center located at the University of Maryland that provides free online access to large collections of spatial data. Satellite imagery and derived land cover products constitute a majority of the 13 terabytes made available for free via FTP. The GLCF mission is to get remotely sensed data and products out to as many users as possible in a manner that is simple, fast, and productive. A history of funding through NASA has led GLCF to become a founding member of the Federation of Earth Science Information Partners as well as complimentary focus involving the conservation community. This paper will focus on the lessons learned in establishing the GLCF as an effective operation as well as the future directions integrating NASA imagery and Esri products including our collaborations with the Federation and the conservation community.
