Abstract
![]() Why Is My Map So Slow? The Impact of Image Storage Formats on ArcIMS Performance at Air Combat Command Track: Defense and Intelligence Author(s): Dave Williams An aerial image is the bedrock layer of most Web map services. Aerial imagery also happens to be the largest (and slowest) dataset that most GIS shops will publish through their web site. This presentation will discuss real world tests of how different image storage formats affect ArcIMS draw times. Topics include flat file vs. database performance differences, database storage parameters that affect draw speed and network considerations affecting ArcIMS draw speeds. These tests were completed to provide performance guidance to the Air Combat Command (USAF) major command Geo-Integration Offices (GIOs).
