Abstract
GISCorps Activities in 2005 Track: Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Affairs Author(s): Shoreh Elhami, Juna Papajorgji GISCorps of URISA coordinates short term volunteer GIS services to underserved communities worldwide and will give an update of its 2005 activities. GISCorps activities support humanitarian relief, economic development, sustainable development, indigenous capacity building, aboriginal rights, health and education. With an emphasis on the Indian Ocean Tragedy events, the presentation will include information about strengthening our organizational foundation with volunteers and friends residing in 26 countries and five continents, proportionally spread across the Academic, Private, Governmental, and non Governmental sectors. We will also discuss building strategic partnerships with professional agencies in the geospatial information field, including GSDI, FGDC, several of the UN Agencies, Esri, and more. We will present all the projects that we accomplished during 2005, most of which related to the Indian Ocean Tragedy. These projects were implemented in collaboration with sister NGOs such as the Global MapAid, MapAction, SeedsIndia, and the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation.
