Abstract
City of Charlotte EA: Developing a Regional Geospatial Data Architecture Track: Spatial Data Infrastructure Author(s): Twyla McDermott The increasingly rapid expansion of geographic information technology within the City of Charlotte municipal government is driving the requirement for accurate and current geospatial data to meet business needs. For some City departments, service delivery areas extend beyond the corporate limits to areas encompassing up to fourteen counties in two (2) states. City departments face the challenge of accessing standardized geospatial data on a regional level. To meet this need, the City is developing a geospatial data architecture as an essential component to its Enterprise Architecture. The design of the geospatial data architecture supports alignment with the National Spatial Data Infrastructure with flexibility for integration with the evolving National Unified Geospatial Enterprise Architecture. This paper will describe the multi-dimensional process toward delivering a shared spatial data architecture to support government services and regional quality of life priorities for public safety and economic vitality.
