Abstract
Use of Tribal, State, and Local GIS to Improve the Accuracy of the Census Bureau's Database Track: Census and Geodemographics Author(s): Brian Timko, Alfred H. Pfeiffer The U.S. Census Bureau is in the third year of a multiyear project to, with the participation of a contractor, improve the positional accuracy of the road data in the TIGER database. Tribal, state, and local GIS files that meet the Census Bureau's accuracy requirements are the preferred sources for achieving this improvement. This presentation will summarize the current status of this MAF/TIGER Accuracy Improvement Project, describe some of the lessons learned about evaluating and using GIS files provided by thousands of partners to accomplish a nationwide improvement, and describe the mutual benefits to the Census Bureau, its source providers, and the wider geospatial data community of moving toward a common geographic base.
