DALIS Web--Using .NET Technology in ArcIMS Application Development
Track: Application Development
Author(s): Shoreh Elhami, Jinhu Ju

The purpose of this paper is to introduce the implementation of .NET technology in DALIS Web, an ArcIMS software-based application developed at Delaware County Auditor's DALIS Project in Ohio. DALIS Project staff maintains more than 60 geographic layers including a comprehensive cadastral dataset. Even though cadastral datasets are the primary layers in DALIS Web, many other environmental- and census-related layers are also accessible from this application. When compared with other ArcIMS connectors, .NET technology provides a more effective result in developing high performance and more flexible ArcIMS applications, especially when complex GIS functionality and multiple layers are involved. This paper will present the process of designing and creating this popular application via adopting the most current information technology. The system design and application development strategies that contribute to the high performance of the system, as well as limitations and future improvements, will also be discussed.
