The Role of GIS in Siting a Wastewater Treatment Plant
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Author(s): Shari Cross

The King County wastewater system serves more than 1.3 million residents within a 3-county, 420-square-mile service area. In late 1999, King County began a search for a site for the new $1.48 billion Brightwater Treatment Plant. This presentation will examine the role played by GIS in developing criteria, identifying potential land areas, selecting candidate sites for further analysis, and in the final selection process to narrow the candidates down from 95 to the final site selected.
