Abstract
Maps on Tap, Maximising UK Government Use of GI Track: Spatial Data Infrastructure Author(s): Steve Peters, Jonathan Rhind ODPM takes the UK governmental lead in relation to geographic information. For example, to facilitate greater spatial awareness and improved sharing of information, it led in the establishment of a cross government license for use of core geographic information. Having provided data, ensuring that it is put to best use, avoiding duplicate procurement, Maps on Tap was established to build a robust, interoperable, cross government, Web services approach to sharing of government geographic information. The Maps on Tap approach is to build interoperable Web services for ODPM, within a cross government commercial framework enabling others to expand the service. The final deliverable will be driven by requirements, but should, in collaborating with other projects, form a key deliverable of UK government information infrastructure. The presentation will highlight organizational and financial issues of cross government working as well as real-world implementation of Open Geospatial Consortium standards.
