Abstract
Datasets That Enable the Plan: Storm Water Project Tracking Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): Brian McMahan, Melani Harrell In a utility focused on customer service, creating datasets that distribute knowledge on the location and number of projects to the enterprise completed in a timely manner is a key business requirement. Initiated by users, the Project Tracking dataset records where projects have been completed throughout Charlotte. The dataset is updated monthly through coordination with the Storm Water GIS group who electronically receives all project closing information. Once the data has been quality checked, a shapefile of the completed work parcels is generated and then distributed throughout the enterprise. Among the tasks that the Project Tracking dataset is used for daily is to track project locations, costs, types of work completed, and staff productivity. Yearly, the dataset is utilized to prepare GASB 34 Asset Tracking for the federal government, determine trends in land development shortcomings, and forecast staffing and contract resources.
