 Business Performance and Technology in Forestry: A Proactive Approach Track: Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management Author(s): Steven Hills, Nicholas Macdonald The past decade has seen immense changes to the practice of forestry in North America. The modern forest management company has an ever-increasing wealth and complexity of data that is available to them. Integrating the flow of information into the business and ensuring that it is available to the decision maker are critical to the success of the company. The escalation of information available to and generated by forestry activities is increasing, without a proactive approach to management; the very information that should enhance business practices quickly becomes a liability. Louisiana-Pacific Swan Valley utilizes a Forest Information System, which is a fully integrated and comprehensive forestry supply chain management system. It provides access to critical business information enabling foresters to track and manage plans and activities across the full forest supply chain from planning and procurement to certification and financial settlements from the office to the field.
