Web to Mobile and Back Again: Easier Than You Think Track: New Technology and System Integration Author(s): Ian Fitzgerald Moving information between advanced desktop GIS applications and their lightweight counterparts, Web and mobile GIS, seems difficult. Even more difficult, it seems, is to move data between the Web and mobile environments themselves. However, movement of GIS data in either arena is far easier than some would like you to think. The Truckee Donner Public Utility District, through internal design and development with simple MS Access technology, Web services, and through the acquisition of off-the-shelf ArcGIS extension software, has created an enterprise environment that once initially configured, either in real-time or near real-time, seamlessly moves geospatial data between the desktop, Web, and mobile environments. The kicker, administrative labor, after initial setup, is no longer required to aid the movement of the data or to upgrade software!
