Abstract
Pacific Emergency Management, Preparedness, Response Information Network and Training Services Track: Homeland Security/Homeland Defense Author(s): John Vogler, Philip Page Pacific EMPRINTS is a continuing education training partnership of ten organizations in Hawai'i, California and U.S. affiliated Pacific Islands that provides multiformat instruction and support to health professionals in the Pacific region to facilitate more informed, effective, and unified preparation and response to CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosive) terrorism and other public health emergencies. Geographic information technologies training and applications are integral components of the overall CE program, with emphasis on public and first responder safety and courses directed at a wide-ranging population of metropolitan and rural health providers in target disciplines including EMTs, physicians, nurses, dentists, mental health workers, pharmacists, veterinarians and para-veterinarians. This paper highlights GIS- and GPS-related training and implementation goals and achievements in both classroom instruction and live, large-scale, multidisciplinary emergency scenarios, leading to a more common appreciation and use of these tools for planning and decision making among health professionals and the CBRNE-WMD communities.
