NTAD 2006 and Incorporating ModelBuilder
Track: Transportation
Author(s): Raquel Wright, Steve Lewis

The National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD) is a set of nationwide geographic databases of transportation facilities, transportation networks, and associated infrastructure. The USDOT Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) is mandated by Congress to supply the data on an annual base. The data used to compile NTAD 2006 was provided by our partners within the U.S. Department of Transportation and by other agencies throughout the federal government. Through the years of producing the NTAD data, BTS has set up processes for quality control. Since ArcGIS 9.1 has integrated ModelBuilder within the system architecture, BTS is attempting to use these new functionalities. Since there are similar processes within the same type of datasets, there will be three high-level models built for processing the NTAD layers: point, line, and polygon. For customization within these models, one of the three scripting languages will be used to supply loop information.
