Abstract
Evaluating Conservation Practices and Land Use on Maryland's Eastern Shore Track: Ecology and Conservation Author(s): W. Dean Hively As part of the Conservation Effects Assessment Project (CEAP), conservation program effects are being evaluated in the Choptank River "special emphasis" watershed on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Handdrawn maps of Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) enrolled areas were obtained from farm planning offices and were spatially rectified against DOQQ images using ERDAS IMAGINE software. Boundaries of the CRP enrolled areas were subsequently digitized using ArcMap, after which a fine scale land-use map was digitized based upon visual interpretation of the DOQQ with topology rules enabled. The resulting land-use dataset has enabled the analysis of restored riparian buffers and cover crops in conjunction with water quality monitoring data and has supported evaluation of nutrient loading to water bodies using the AnnAGNPS and REMM water quality models.
