Abstract
Riparian Assessment for TMDL Track: Ecology and Conservation Author(s): Jim Villeponteaux The goal of this project is to make improvements to riparian habitat shading along the Salmon River and its tributaries and to develop a protocol for assessing and prioritizing critical restoration of riparian habitat areas. - Review existing data (using existing GIS data and 1944 and 2005 aerial photos) to determine where there may be riparian areas deficient in shading vegetation and where there are potential crossings have a risk of a debris torrent that would denude riparian areas. We created a protocol for assessing riparian areas. This protocol will determine which areas are deficient in shading vegetation and if revegetation is feasible, at a minimum. - Survey identified areas and make site maps using the developed protocol. - Prioritize areas that are deficient in shading vegetation and where revegetation is feasible. - Establish procedures and cost estimates for implementation at each prioritized site.
