Abstract
Managing Infested Ash Trees Using ArcGIS and Cityworks Track: State and Local Government Author(s): David Wilburn This presentation will focus on the implementation and use of ArcGIS and Azteca's Cityworks Maintenance Management software to manage activities related to ash tree removal due to Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) infestation. In most communities in southeast Michigan, EAB has had a devastating effect on the tree population. In Ann Arbor, approximately 20% of the trees managed by the city are ash trees and will need to be removed and replaced. To manage this task, the City turned to ArcGIS to handle spatial questions and Cityworks to manage work processes. The old tabular tree database was converted into a temporary GIS layer, and ash trees were identified and locations corrected. In parallel, a tree data model was developed along with the necessary Cityworks' service requests and work orders needed for tree management. Upon completion, GIS was used to more effectively target work activities.
