Abstract
Developing a Web-Based Mapping Service Using 20 Years of Data Track: New Technology and System Integration Author(s): Tracy Brown A customized GIS Web-based mapping service was developed by the Kansas City U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for Weldon Spring Ordnance Works, a WW II ordnance site located outside St. Louis. Following remediation efforts, 20 years of documents, reports, and drawings existed in archives that were difficult to access and manage, raising the need for a comprehensive way to organize the resources. The Weldon Spring Environmental GIS provides access to facility-wide maps, remedial action site summary reports, and a documents database housing hundreds of archived documents. Planimetric mapping was developed, and a customized ArcIMS mapping service enables users to navigate through excavation sites, institutional control information, and site summary reports. The compiled resources will aid in planning and maintaining of the area, which is now used as a training site. This paper illustrates the Weldon Spring Environmental GIS, created to provide easy access to archived documents and online mapping capabilities.
