Implementing an SDI Portal Supporting DoD, Federal, and National Goals
Track: Spatial Data Infrastructure
Author(s): Joel Schlagel, Daniel Feinberg

The Defense Installation Spatial Data Infrastructure (DISDI) is a DoD mission capability composed of the people, policy, and practices necessary to steward and share DoD installation, environmental, and range data in support of DoD, federal, and national goals. DISDI is enabled by a federated organization of geospatial data providers (DoD Services) and users across the DoD and federal sector. The DISDI Portal has been established to act as the "One-Stop" point of access to this data and as the link to the NSDI for federal and national data sharing. This presentation will describe the architecture of the DISDI Portal and share lessons learned that will be of value to any organization--DoD or otherwise--that seeks to sustain a spatial data infrastructure (SDI). The presentation will address use of Esri technology, OGC Web services, ArcWeb Services, and other relevant issues including information assurance and security strategies.
