Abstract
Transmission Pipeline Integrity Management--"We Have to Do What?" Track: Petroleum and Pipeline Transmission Author(s): Mark Warner Following two major transmission pipeline incidents in 1999 and 2000, President Bush signed into law the Pipeline Safety Improvement Act of 2002 outlining requirements for integrity management of transmission pipelines. The Office of Pipeline Safety responded with new rules setting forth the minimum standards needed to meet those requirements. Questar Corporation has responded with an aggressive GIS solution including the use of the ArcGIS Pipeline Data Model (APDM) to manage pipeline data, events and activities along the pipeline and pipeline corridor as well as risk parameters, threats and the probability and consequence of failure. Questar has always prided itself on having safe and reliable pipelines without any major incidents. Thus the question, "We have to do what?" This paper discusses how APDM is used to manage the enormous amount of data, the additional level of effort and the analysis and reporting needed to comply with the new integrity rules.
