Author(s): Jocelyn Lutte, Joseph McClurkin, Joseph McClurkin

Artesian Water Company, recognized as one of America's 100 fastest-growing small companies by Fortune Small Business magazine, has leveraged Esri-based technologies as the hub of its enterprise-wide Web-based information/decision solution. This paper will address the organizational adoption of GIS as the new informational hub of this 100+ year old company. An overview of the system architecture composed of core Esri products (ArcGIS, ArcIMS, SDE, etc.) and a host of Esri business partner third-party solutions (water modeling, asset management, and Web) will be provided. The management practices and implementation strategies utilized to implement the enhanced technologies into an established organization while controlling the impacts of significant culture changes will be defined. In addition, lessons learned during the implementation process, the establishment and linkage of industry best management practices and a quantification of strategic long-term benefits to the organization and its customers will be provided.
