Abstract
FPS Increases Situational Awareness through ArcGIS Server IRIS Application Track: Homeland Security/Homeland Defense Author(s): Jon Werkmeister, Bryan Dickerson The Federal Protective Service (FPS) is responsible for providing law enforcement and security services to more than one million tenants and visitors to all federally owned and leased facilities nationwide. The FPS is developing Immediate Response Information System (IRIS), an application to support increased situational awareness and officer safety both from a dispatch and field perspective. IRIS, based on Esri's ArcGIS Server platform, provides tools for accessing building and tenant information, evacuation planning and incident cordoning, automated vehicle locating, text messaging, Common Installation Picture (CIP) data layer access as well as future functionality for access and control of CCTV cameras, access to security system schematics and live integration with a facility management information system database. IRIS can be accessed both from the field on wireless-enabled computers as well as from the dispatch center and is seen as an important tool for increasing officer safety and incident management.
